The Will to be an Exercise Physiologist
Saturday, May 27th, 2006What is it that you wish to be? Perhaps, I will state it this way, “Do wish to be a fitness professional or an exercise physiologist?” That is the question isn’t it? Actually, I don’t thank so. It is too obvious that the latter is the real win! Why would a person be a physical therapist assistant if there is the opportunity to be a physical therapist or a nurse assistant versus an actual nurse? As everyone knows, given the professional infrastructure of the physical therapy or nursing, no one can call him- or herself either without an actual degree in physical therapy or nursing. Unfortunately, this is not the case in exercise physiology. Anyone can him- or herself an exercise physiologist regardless of his or her degree. In fact, the person may not even have a college degree. Hello, wake up exercise physiologists. The reality of your failed sports medicine rhetoric has resulted in major problems for students who think they are exercise physiologists. From the ASEP perspective, if you didn’t graduate with an “actual” academic degree in exercise physiology or if you did not pass the “Exercise Physiologist Certified” exam, you are not an exercise physiologist. These are the facts, as they say.
